What is Celtic Shamanism?

Celtic shamanism draws from the spiritual beliefs and practices of the ancient Celtic peoples of Europe. It focuses on nature, ancestors, and the spirit world, often involving communication with animal spirits, elemental forces, and ancestors.

Celtic Shamanism in Therapy: How It Works

Using Celtic shamanic practices in therapy means incorporating its worldview and healing methods to support mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This approach can be part of holistic therapy or spiritual counselling.

Key Elements in Celtic Shamanic Therapy:

  1. Journeying (Shamanic Journey):
The therapist or client enters a meditative or trance-like state to “journey” into the spirit world. This can reveal insights, guidance, or healing messages from Celtic spirits, ancestors, or power animals.

  2. Connection with Nature:
Therapy often includes spending time in nature or using nature-based symbols (trees, stones, water) to ground and heal. The Celtic reverence for natural elements supports emotional balance.

  3. Working with Ancestors:
Healing may involve connecting with Celtic ancestors or spirit guides to resolve ancestral trauma or gain wisdom and support.

  4. Use of Symbols & Rituals:
Celtic symbols (like the triskele or ogham script) and rituals help clients focus their intention, release blockages, or mark healing milestones.

  5. Animal Totems and Power Animals:
Clients may connect with animal spirits that serve as guides or protectors during the healing process, offering strength or insight.

Benefits in Therapy

  • Spiritual Growth: Helps clients feel connected to a larger spiritual framework.

  • Holistic Approach: Integrates mind, body, and spirit for comprehensive healing.

  • Empowerment: Clients reclaim personal power through symbolic journeys and rituals.
